The Green Rooms Surf Camp

The Green Rooms grew organically after the devastating 2004 tsunami, when local land was being sold off to foreign investors. Determined to keep this ancient fishing land in community ownership, the founders decided to build their own surf camp - and The Green Rooms was born. Their mission has always been simple: create a brilliant surf camp that provides something different and special. This is truly a family operation, employing local people with fair wages and working conditions. The camp gives back to the community in many ways, from supporting vulnerable people, covering medical expenses, and providing rubbish collection and recycling, to helping out local schools and temples. Located directly on Weligama Beach in the "Sandy Village" area, The Green Rooms provides an unparalleled beachfront experience. Wake up to the soothing sound of the ocean, step outside, and find yourself just moments away from world-class waves. The surf season runs from November to April, offering consistent swells and perfect conditions for surfers of all levels. Accommodation ranges from traditional hand-crafted mango wood cabanas with huge shuttered windows open to sea breezes, to newly renovated air-conditioned rooms in the Green House building. All guests enjoy access to the restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a bar, garden, and 24-hour front desk.
