About
Surf school and camp in Famara, Lanzarote, run by Mauri with over 20 years of experience surfing around the world. Offers surf, windsurf, and wingfoil lessons plus accommodation in a Surf House, caravan, or camper van steps from the beach. Certified instructors, small groups, and the magical volcanic landscape of the Canary Islands.
Mauri Surf sits in Famara, a small village on the northwest coast of Lanzarote known for consistent waves and dramatic volcanic cliffs. The beach here stretches for six kilometers, with sandy bottom breaks that work well for learning and improving. Behind the village, the Risco de Famara rises 500 meters, creating one of the most striking backdrops for surfing in Europe.
The school is run by Mauri, who spent two decades chasing waves across the world before settling in Lanzarote to teach. His approach combines technical instruction with the kind of local knowledge that only comes from years in the water. Classes are kept small, usually with a maximum of 4-5 students per instructor, allowing for real feedback and progression.
Beyond surfing, Mauri also teaches windsurf and wingfoil for those looking to try something different. The flat lagoon sections of Famara and nearby La Santa offer perfect conditions for wing sports. Equipment is included in all lessons.
The Surf House sits near the beach, a simple but comfortable base with two bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, WiFi, and a work area for digital nomads who want to mix remote work with daily surf sessions. For those seeking more adventure, there's also a caravan for four people and a smaller camper van for two. Both options let you explore the island while staying mobile.
Lanzarote has been called the European Hawaii for good reason. The volcanic landscape, year-round sunshine, and variety of waves from beach breaks to reef points make it a complete surf destination. Water temperatures stay warm enough for a 3/2 wetsuit most of the year, and the waves tend to be more forgiving than mainland Europe's Atlantic-facing coasts.
