Madeira Surf Camp

Madeira Surf Camp brings surf culture to an island better known for levada walks and tropical gardens. Located in Porto da Cruz on Madeira's northern coast, the camp occupies a centenary house that founders André Rodrigues and Hélder Vieira renovated in 2020 specifically to host surfers wanting to explore this unique destination. Porto da Cruz has something rare on Madeira: volcanic black sand beaches with surfable waves. These are the only consistently rideable breaks on the island, and the conditions particularly suit beginners learning fundamentals. The village preserves traditional Portuguese culture—local restaurants serve fresh fish, regional wines, and Madeiran specialties that represent the island's gastronomy. The guesthouse offers four suite rooms with private bathrooms—two with queen beds, two with twins that can be configured as doubles. The renovated terrace has become the property's highlight: solarium, outdoor shower, BBQ, and 360-degree views encompassing ocean and the dramatic mountains that define Madeira's landscape. For non-surf days, canyoning, trail running, mountain biking, and paragliding fill the adventure quota. Funchal sits 30 kilometers away for city exploration.
