Desert Surf Camp is a Moroccan-owned surf camp based in Aourir village, about 15 minutes north of Agadir. Founded in 2017, the camp operates two villas and specializes in combining surf holidays with Moroccan cultural adventures. Beyond standard surf packages, they run unique trips to the Sahara Desert, Mount Toubkal, and Marrakesh. The camp caters to beginners through intermediate surfers with daily lessons, video analysis, and access to a variety of breaks from Banana Point to Taghazout. They've taught over 7,000 people to surf and maintain a 4.9 rating across Google and TripAdvisor.
Desert Surf Camp started in 2017 when founder Ismail, a Moroccan surfer since age 9, decided to share his love for surfing and local culture with travelers. The operation grew from a single villa to two locations: the original ocean-view property in Aourir and a second villa in Tamraght closer to Taghazout.
What sets Desert Surf apart is their approach to the Morocco surf trip. While most camps focus purely on waves, they built adventure packages that combine surfing with the country's major experiences. The Surf & Sahara package takes guests through the Atlas Mountains to sleep in desert camps. Surf & Explore covers Marrakesh's medina, the Agafay Desert, and the coastal town of Essaouira. Surf & Toubkal challenges visitors to summit North Africa's highest peak before heading to the beach.
The team is predominantly local, led by Ismail and co-founder Jane who handles operations. Surf instructors like Yassin, Ayoub, Abdi, and Mohammed are all certified and know the region's breaks intimately. The kitchen serves traditional Moroccan cooking - tagines, couscous, fresh fish - with options for vegetarians.
The camp operates year-round. Morocco's Atlantic coast receives consistent swell most of the year, with the prime season running October through April when larger north swells arrive. Summer brings smaller, cleaner waves that work well for beginners. The camp's spot selection covers everything from beach breaks for first-timers to point breaks like Anchor Point and Killer Point for more experienced surfers.
