About
Local Surf Camp is a family-run surf camp in Imsouane founded by local brothers Mehdi and Ismail Bairou, who have been surfing these waters since 1998. The 4-story camp hosts up to 24 guests across 7 rooms and 2 dorms, featuring a rooftop terrace for meals, yoga sessions, and sunset views. Packages include daily surf lessons, traditional Moroccan meals, video analysis, and surfskate training.
Local Surf Camp was born from a childhood dream. Brothers Mehdi and Ismail Bairou grew up surfing the empty lineups of Imsouane before it became known as Morocco's surfing paradise. When their original surf school building was demolished in January 2024, they didn't give up - instead, they rebuilt their vision into a proper surf camp that opened in 2025.
The camp occupies a traditional Moroccan building across four floors with 7 private rooms and 2 dormitories, accommodating up to 24 guests. At the top sits the heart of Local - two rooftop terraces where guests gather for meals, sunset sessions, and yoga classes. The design keeps things simple and calming, blending Moroccan tradition with a surfer's need for relaxation after busy days in the water.
Daily meals feature fresh, homemade Moroccan cooking: vibrant salad buffets, seasonal vegetables, grilled meats, tagines, and fresh fish from the local fishermen. The food has developed such a reputation that former guests return from other towns just to eat here.
Surf lessons cater to beginners and intermediates, offered in English, French, and Arabic. The coaches - including Mehdi (ISA and FRMS certified) and Ismail (IKO certified) - have decades of experience reading these waves and know exactly where to position students for success. Sessions include video analysis so you can watch your progress and understand what to improve.
Beyond surfing, the camp offers surfskate lessons to improve balance and technique on land, plus yoga sessions on the rooftop for stretching and recovery. The vibe is social but not party-heavy - this is a place for genuine connection with like-minded travelers who share a love for the ocean.
