Sumba Surf Camp

Sumba Surf Camp sits on a hillside overlooking Kerewe beach in West Sumba, about 100 meters from the ocean. The camp runs six bungalows and rooms, all with AC and private bathrooms, built from tropical wood and hay in a mix of Sumbanese and western styles. The operation centers on boat access to the waves. A 13-meter speedboat with 250hp Honda and smaller dinghies run daily transfers to spots within 30 minutes of camp. Kerewe rights breaks directly in front, but the real draw is accessing the outer reefs and points that kept most surfers away from Sumba for decades. Days start with coffee and homemade cakes before the morning session. Three meals daily come from the open-air dining area, with vegetables and fruits from the organic garden. Between surfs, there's a 13-meter swimming pool, yoga shala, and beach access for downtime. Sumba remains culturally distinct from the rest of Indonesia. Traditional villages with towering rumah menara houses are a short drive away, and the tribal spirit runs strong in Lamboya. It's remote - that's the point - but the camp handles logistics so you can focus on surfing some of the most uncrowded waves in Indonesia.
