Rote Surf Resort (formerly Lualemba Bungalows) has been welcoming surfers to Rote Island since 2009, when there were only a handful of accommodations on the island. What started as a simple surf camp has transformed into a permaculture paradise with the greenest gardens on Rote Island. The resort features traditional Timorese bungalows that have been renovated with modern comforts - large comfortable beds, ceiling fans, tiled bathrooms with modern fixtures, and timber panel ceilings with insulated roofing. Each bungalow has a private terrace surrounded by vibrant permaculture gardens filled with fruits, vegetables, palms, and flowering plants. A standout feature is the natural pool with waterfalls, water plants, and fish. The pool operates without chemicals, using a UV lighting system and ionizers instead of chlorine or salt - a truly unique swimming experience. For surfers, the location is ideal. A 400-meter walk takes you to Nemberala beach harbor where boats shuttle guests to famous breaks like T-Land (Besialu Reef), the Bombie, Squealers, and the Spit. One boat trip per day is included with accommodation. The resort also offers fishing charters and yacht trips to outer islands. The Lualemba Restaurant and Bar serves breakfast daily (included), with lunch available at menu prices and banquet dinners featuring whole barbecued fish, Jenet's famous chicken dishes, and beef rendang served several times weekly. The resort is committed to sustainability, providing filtered drinking water to reduce plastic bottle use, and encouraging guests to bring reusable bottles and bags.
