About
Anugerah Surf & Dive Resort is a family-owned beachfront property in Nemberala, Rote Island, sitting directly in front of the legendary T-Land - one of the world's finest left-hand reef breaks. Since 1995, this welcoming resort has been the go-to destination for surfers seeking Indonesia's best waves without the crowds.
Anugerah means "Blessed" or "Grace" in Indonesian, and it's a fitting name for this slice of paradise on Rote Island's southwestern coast. The Frans family has been welcoming surfers here since 1995, growing their resort into the most popular accommodation on the island through genuine hospitality, unbeatable location, and reasonable pricing.
The resort sits on white sandy beaches directly in front of Besialu reef, known worldwide as T-Land for its similarity to Java's legendary G-Land. This super-long left breaks for hundreds of meters down a relatively forgiving coral reef, working from two feet up to well overhead. The two resort boats and drivers are available all day, taking guests to the main break in minutes or to any of the other world-class waves around the island - Sucky Mama's hollow right, the powerful Bombie, playful Squealers for beginners, or the legendary barrels at Boa.
Beyond surfing, Anugerah is a certified PADI resort offering dive trips and courses in pristine waters where Mike, the dive expert, knows the best spots to see manta rays. The on-site spa provides relaxation after sessions, and free yoga classes run throughout the week - Surf Prep Stretch in the mornings and Recovery Stretch in the evenings.
The food keeps guests fueled with three generous daily meals. Breakfast features fruit salad followed by eggs, toast, and pancakes (or nasi goreng for those wanting local flavors). Lunch and dinner bring chicken or fish dishes with rice, vegetables, and salads. Tea, milk, and coffee flow all day, and the bar stocks cold beers and snacks.
Staff come from Nemberala village and greet everyone with huge smiles. Erasmus "Moose" Frans, the eldest son and resort manager, is an experienced local surfer with degrees in English and Economics. His wife Elizabeth manages the restaurant, keeping meal quality high. It's this family atmosphere that brings surfers back year after year - many have stayed five times or more, drawn by the uncrowded waves and warm hospitality that feels like Bali used to be.
