Joyu Surf Shack

Located in the charming village of Bidart between Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Joyu Surf Shack is a comfortable and welcoming surf house run with passion. The beautiful Basque villa "Ur Ona" sits just 700 meters from the ocean, making it easy to reach the first surf spots on foot. The French Basque Coast and southern Landes offer an incredible variety of surf spots - from the beach breaks of Anglet to the reefs of Guethary, including the legendary Parlementia. With over 50 spots within 40 minutes of the house, there are always waves to surf regardless of tide, wind, or season. The surf guiding service is perfect for intermediate surfers who can handle themselves in the water. A local guide takes small groups (maximum 8 people) in a 4x4 to find the best conditions each day, with up to 2 sessions daily. Premium boards from the Joyu quiver are included - choose from fish, longboards, midlengths, and eggs. For beginners, certified surf lessons are available with partner schools. The kitchen serves healthy, delicious homemade meals using fresh, local, and organic produce. From brioche at breakfast to Lebanese salads and creative dinners, every dish is prepared with care. Vegetarian options are always available. Joyu is committed to sustainability with water conservation (rainwater collection, flow reducers), waste reduction (composting, reusable lunchboxes), local sourcing, and bio-friendly products. They are working toward the European Eco Label certification. Shared spaces include a large living room with projector, library, hammock-equipped terrace, ping pong table, slackline, garden, and board games. The closest spots are walkable, and bicycles are available for getting around.
