Water Temperature:

• Winter (Dec-Mar): 11-14°C → 5/4mm + boots, gloves optional
• Spring (Apr-May): 14-17°C → 4/3mm
• Summer (Jun-Aug): 20-22°C → 3/2mm or shorty
• Autumn (Sep-Nov): 17-20°C → 4/3mm or 3/2mm

September-October has the warmest water of the year.

Tides: Range of 3-4m. Many breaks work across tides with shifting banks. Check for where sandbars are producing the best peaks.

Currents: EXTREMELY POWERFUL RIPS at Hossegor beaches. Multiple drownings occur every year, including experienced surfers. Never underestimate the current. The brutal longshore drift can sweep you far from entry point.

Water Quality: Generally good. Some trash accumulates after winter storms. River runoff affects water temporarily after heavy rain.
